Stylus Photo 2100, R2400, R2880: I've tried swapping the Matte (MK) and Photo (PK) Black cartridges but some paper types are missing from the printer driver. What can I do?

RELATES TO:

  • Stylus Photo 2100, Stylus Photo R2400, Stylus Photo R2880
  • Matte and Photo ink cartridges and media types
  • Windows 98SE, ME, 2000, XP, Vista, Windows 7
  • Mac OS X (10.2, 10.3, 10.4 Tiger, 10.5 Leopard, 10.6 Snow Leopard)
  • Mac OS 8.1 - 9.2 (SP2100 only)
  • Mac OS 9.1 and higher (R2400 only)

EXPLANATION:

The media types available to select in the printer driver depend on whether the Photo Black (PK) or Matte Black (MK) ink cartridge is inserted in the printer and updated in the driver.

Glossy media types are only available to select in the driver when the Photo Black (PK) ink cartridge is inserted into the printer. Matte media types are only available to select in the driver when the Matte Black (MK) ink cartridge is inserted into the printer.

If you plan to switch the black ink cartridge from one type to another, switch the cartridge before you open your printing software. If you open an image in software and then switch the black ink cartridge, the printer driver may display invalid settings.

If you cannot view the expected paper types in the printer driver, you will need to update the cartridge information in the printer driver. Follow the instructions below for your operating system:

For Windows:

  1. Close your printing software application.

  2. Open the Printers, Printers and Faxes, Printers and Other Hardware or Devices and Printers (Windows 7) folder from the Start menu or Control Panel.

  3. Locate your Epson printer icon in the printers folder. Right-click on the icon and left-click on Printing Preferences.

  4. In the Printing Preferences window, click on the Maintenance tab (SPR2400) or the Utility tab (SPR2880/SP2100). Then click on Printer and Option Information.

The R2880 is used as an example here

  5. In the Cartridge Option window, click on the cartridge which matches the cartridge currently inserted in the printer and that you will print with. Then click OK.

  6. Click OK again to close Printing Preferences. When you reopen the Printing Preferences from the printers folder or from within your printing software application, the media type selections should be updated.

For Mac OS X:

  1. Open the EPSON Printer Utility (or EPSON Printer Utility2 / EPSON Printer Utility3) in the Applications folder in Macintosh HD.

  2. If prompted, select the printer from the Printer List, then click OK. The Utility window opens.

  3. Click on the Status Monitor icon to open Status Monitor.

  4. The current ink levels are displayed. Click on the relevant black ink cartridge and then click on the Update button.

  5. Click on OK to close the Status Monitor dialogue, then quit the EPSON Printer Utility. When you re-open the Print dialogue and the Print Settings menu for your printer, the media selections should be updated.

For Mac Classic (SP2100 and SPR2400 only):

  1. Open the Epson Utility. Access the Print or Page Setup dialogue box (via the File menu in an application).

  2. Click on the Utility icon button, or in the Print dialogue click on the Status Monitor icon.

  3. In the EPSON Utility window, click on EPSON StatusMonitor.
