Mac OS X - Making settings in Page Setup

RELATES TO:

  • Mac OS X
  • Borderless printing
  • Selecting paper feed or source options

EXPLANATION:

You can make paper size, page layout, and source settings in the Page Setup dialogue of your printing application. Accessing the Page Setup settings for an Epson printer is similar across all versions of OS X, but there can be significant differences in the options available.

Notes Icon Note:

Due to the wide variety of applications and operating systems on the market, Epson cannot advise how to set the paper size in every instance. Consult your application's guidance for instructions.

This example uses Text Edit, but the instructions can be applied to other applications that are native to Mac OS X such as Safari.

Follow the advice below for guidance on Page Setup settings. The guidance is split into sections based on operating system and with 10.4 (Tiger), the processor. Click on the relevant heading to view the instructions.

To check the OS version and Mac CPU type, click on Apple Icon Apple menu > About This Mac. See How to check the OS Version in Mac OS X if you require detailed guidance.

Mac OS 10.1 - 10.4 Power PC

  1. Within the application you wish to print from, click File then Page Setup.

    • The Page Setup dialogue box allows you to make the appropriate settings that you want to use for printing, under 'Format For', 'Paper Size', 'Orientation', and 'Scale'.

    • With an Epson driver, it also allows you to select the different page layout and paper source options, where available.

    • The options available under Format For and Paper Size depend on the type of driver that is installed.

  2. Refer to the images below and accompanying descriptions to help you to determine the type of driver in use.

    Driver Type 1:

If paper sizes are listed with no sub-menus, it is an 'older-style' Epson driver. The layout and source options can normally be selected with the printer name under Format For.

The image below is an example of the list of different Page Setup drivers for the Stylus Pro 7600:

    Paper Types

    Note:

Some older 10.2, 10.3 and 10.4 printer drivers require you to add multiple driver types in order to print borderless (No Margins), minimum margins of 3 mm (Maximum), on Roll paper, or use the Manual feed slot.

If the paper sizes are listed without a sub-menu but there is only one instance of the printer name under Format For, it is likely that whilst it is Driver Type 1, only the standard printer driver was added when setting-up the printer.

Follow the instructions below as appropriate for your operating system for guidance.

    10.2 & 10.3:
    To add all drivers:

    1. Open the Print Center or Printer Setup Utility from Applications \ Utilities.
    2. Click Add at the top of the Printer List. From the pull-down menu, select EPSON USB, EPSON FireWire, EPSON AppleTalk, or EPSON TCP/IP depending on the way your Mac connects to the printer.
    3. Click on the printer name that appears under the selection then change the Page Setup from Standard to All using the pull-down menu.
    4. Click Add and the different driver will be added to the Printer List.
    5. These are now accessible from Page Setup and Print.

    10.4:
    To add all drivers:

    1. Open the Printer Setup Utility from Applications \ Utilities. Click Add at the top of the Printer List. Click on More Printers in the Printer Setup Utility window. From the pull-down menu, select EPSON USB, EPSON FireWire, EPSON AppleTalk, or EPSON TCP/IP depending on the way your Mac connects to the printer.
    2. Click on the printer name that appears under the selection then change the Page Setup from Standard to All using the pull-down menu.
    3. Click Add and the different drivers will be added to the Printer List.
    4. These are now accessible from Page Setup and Print.

    Driver Type 2:

With a new-style driver, the standard paper sizes are listed with sub-menus which provide additional layout and source options. The Stylus Photo R2400 is used in the examples below.

The image below shows several of the paper sizes on the Paper Size menu. Note the arrow indicating a sub-menu arrow which indicates a sub-menu is available for that paper size.
